About Jim Thorpe
Originally founded in 1818 as Mauch Chunk, the borough of Jim Thorpe was renamed in the 1950's to honor one of America's greatest athletes, merging with the former East Mauch Chunk, just across the Lehigh River Gorge. Jim Thorpe has been designated as one of America's Most Beautiful Small Towns for several years. The borough is located less than 45 minutes north of Allentown, just off exit 74 from the I-476 Turnpike Extension.

From hiking, biking, rafting or kayaking in the Poconos, to taking a trip on the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway, every season offers visitors a chance to experience the beauty of nature in and around Jim Thorpe. Mauch Chunk Lake Park, located 5 minutes from our guesthouses, offers facilities for picnicking, swimming, hiking, biking, and fishing.

Experience the history of Jim Thorpe with a tour through the Asa Packer Mansion or the Old Jail Museum? Jim Thorpe offers a plethora of historical and educational opportunities for your entire group. Ghost Tours and Sidecar Tours are also a great way to see more of the history and legends that comprise Jim Thorpe.
Several of the historical sites and tours are closed in the winter, but there are always several opportunities to discover the history that lies just beneath Jim Thorpe.
